nutella ice cream

I think it's fitting that my first official food post over here in my new space is ice cream.  Who cares that it's not summer anymore....every season is ice cream season!

Now, please don't judge me too harshly for this next revelation.  I don't like nutella.

Yes, you read that right.  I don't hate it by any means....but I'm just not a huge fan of hazelnuts.  So this ice cream is all Jordyn.  She even hides the nutella jar around the house so that it doesn't tempt her so much.  Ha!  No temptation for me.  Although I will say that this ice cream turned out pretty yummy.  As long as I avoided the nutella swirls...

ingredients

2 cups heavy cream

2 cups whole milk

1/2 cup sugar

1/4 tsp salt

1 tsp hazelnut extract

1/2 cup roasted hazelnuts, chopped

1/4 nutella (for swirls)

directions:

1) Mix together cream, milk, sugar, salt, and hazelnut extract.

2)  Pour the mixture into your ice cream maker and follow the directions of your machine.

3)  When mixture starts to thicken, gradually add in chopped hazelnut pieces.

4)  When the ice cream is ready, gently warm up nutella so you can easily spoon it, but don't let it get super hot.  In a loaf pan (or tupperware), alternate layers of ice cream with drizzles of nutella, and place in freezer to harden for about 2 hours before serving.

Nutella lovers rejoice!  Now go make and enjoy this treat in a delicious frozen form!
