Citrus season is still going strong, and nothing beats a classic loaf! They are such a reliable go-to, and perfect to pair with a cozy drink on a cold winter day. Lemon is such a bright, zippy flavour, and is always such a joy to use in the kitchen. I will say, that if you don’t own a zester….invest in one! It’s one of those kitchen gadgets that - yes it only has one use - but it is sooooo difficult to make citrus-y things without it! I’ve tried using a peeler and a sharp knife to get the same result….haha. Nope. Just doesn’t work!

Okay…I feel like I need to give a bit of background info before we jump right into talking about these cookies! I have a history of luckiness….as in, I have won an absurd number of contests in my life! Free airline tickets, workshops, prints, blankets, cookware, etc. You get the picture. Ha! As a kid I once had my name drawn TWICE at a 5K run I was part of…and had to give up my second prize of an overnight stay in Whistler because I was honest, and told them I had already won something. HILARIOUS.

Guess who finally found BLOOD ORANGES!!! I’ve been keeping my eyes peeled for them since November…hahaha, but they only just showed up in the last couple weeks! I will be 100% honest and say that my obsession is purely based on looks, as their taste isn’t that much different than your average orange. But how fun is it to cut into a normal looking orange, and be rewarded with gorgeous shades of red? And I’ve been so delighted to play around with their natural colour in a few different recipes!

I have another cozy winter drink for you today! It’s a little twist on the homemade salted hot chocolate I shared a couple months ago! This time we’re skipping the caramel, and instead adding in some chai spices. I have two methods that work, one with a tea bag, and the other with a homemade chai spice mix…because I like to keep things simple, but also like options. Ha!
